Not a get rich quick scheme (not for everyone anyway)

February 1st, 2006 by Greg

I am probably chopping my nose of to spite my face here but I have to say to people that are looking at setting up a Pay Per pixel site that it is not a get rich quick scheme.

Like any site you have to get genuine traffic before you can get sales, I had someone ask me a couple of days ago why he hasn’t sold a pixel in the two weeks his site has been up, it turned out he was averaging 10 visitors a day and about 30% of them was him and the rest where friends he had emailed or told about the site. To be honest with just 10 visitors a day you are not going to make sales. You need traffic.

When I say you need traffic, I do not mean promote your site in a traffic exchange, if you ask me these are the biggest waste of time going, think about it. Why are people sitting in front of their monitor using a traffic exchange? why are you? The simple answer is to earn credits for your site or cash, I bet the majority of those looking at the sites are not even reading them.

I’ve seen other Pay Per pixel sites shut down within a month as they have had a few sales, please this takes time, you can earn money from it, but not overnight.

I am not a marketting expert, but when people ask me how to promote their site I say ‘get your site known’ ad links to other popular sites, I don’t mean spam every blog going, that doesn’t work, but if you have a targeted audience, try to get your site listed on related sites. The more genuine links you have to your site the better your position in the search engines will become.

My Pay Per pixel script also comes with a helper script called snapads, this allows you to place sections of your pixel site on other ‘content driven’ sites, as I have on this blog and on my main Script site, this works well for me, I get traffic to my content driven sites as people are looking for that content, they see the pixel ads and are intrigued and click, this also encourages advertisers as they are getting ads on more that one site for their money.

Another thing I recommend is adding a few ads on your Pay Per pixel to start it off, these could be recipricol links, or affiliate links etc. If an visitor (potential advertiser) sees a blank page they are not going to stay around, if they see ads on the site then they may find it more attractive.

Ensure your keywords and title are good for your site, I use the Meta Tag Analyzer

Be patient, we are not all going to make money as fast as Alex Tew but we can all make money.
