Sigh of releif

January 1st, 2007 by Greg

Just got one peice of good news reguarding Yzoo and Google, today my Adsense earnings for November hit my bank account.

Why the sigh? Well before Yzoo I was earning just a few dollars a month on Adsense. In October it jumped to a few hundred US Dollars for the month. In November it jumped to a 4 figure number, even 4 figures in Pound Sterling.

Looking forward to next months payment now:)

Which of the following has had a negative effect?

About 2 weeks ago I did some things and apparently 1 or more of them have had a negative effect on our rankings in Google and therefor the amount of traffic Yzoo receives. Althoug Google has indexed more than 60,000 pages the site has dropped in the rankings.

On 21st/22nd of December traffic to the site peaked at around 21000 visits for each of the two days, for the past week it has not exceeded 8000 visits, the average for December was 14700 visits a day so the past week has been running at about 50%.

On the 23rd December it was reported to me that Yzoo had an Alexa rating of about 23000 for the day, for the past week it has not entered the top 100,000.

Adsense earnings for the month of December averaged about $130/day, for the past week it has averaged less than half of that.

Google has been the biggest referer by far since the site started according to our own stats bringing us 75% of our traffic with yahoo in second with 20%, now according to google’s analytics stats over the past few days, Google is only bringing us 28% of the traffic and yahoo is bringing us 53%.

I have now got to work out which of the following has caused this drop in traffic:
