A couple of weeks ago I wrote that the yzoo script will become available soon.

Well we have decided to sell the script as a site rather than on it’s own for the time being. The first site being onlinebestfind.com which just went live yesterday.

We plan to wait until the site is indexed in the search engines before we list it both on cgiscripts4u.com and sitepoint but subscribers to this blog can bid for it via email before such time if they want to.

The winning bidder will get :

1. the domain
2. the site as it is with scripts and current database
3. details of variables that can be used in design template
4. my help to transfer the site to your server.

The scripts do NOT come with resale rights. They can be used on just the one domain.

Main requirements you need for the site:

1. A Linux server - ideally a dedicated server to allow for load, it will work on shared hosting but when the site gets popular you will need to move.
2. multiple IP addresses if possible. Yahoo, for example, limits use of it’s API to 1000 accesses a day per IP address. This means if you have just one IP you can only get yahoo results a max of 1000 times in any 24 hour period. If you have 5 IP’s then you can access the API upto 50000 times in 24 hours.
3. Ability to either modify apache httpd.conf file or .htaccess file with mod_rewrite enabled to set up redirect.
4. Mysql database

Hosting can be arranged for you if required.

Now for the earning potential.

Yzoo at it’s peak (Feb 2008) had Adsense earnings exceeding $50,000USD in a single month.

The site has been up for about 18 months, as yzoo.co.uk and then yzoosearch.com, google have basically deindexed the site a couple of times over that period, why I don’t know, it could be down to proxy  (see Bloody proxy servers) servers duplicating the content which I have had to then block from accessing the site or it could be that Google just does not like the site.

The script does automatically (using a cron) submit a sitemap to Google, Yahoo and Ask. Another site that uses an older version of the script which does not submit a sitemap each day gets a steady 8000 page impressions a day and has not seen any deindexing over the past 18 months.

At this point it is too early to say how well this site may or may not do, it all depends on how well it is promoted and indexed in the big search engines. If you can get more links to the site it will do better. If you sit back and do nothing it will not do as well.

Once up and running there should be nothing you need to do on a daily basis apart from monitor the resources being used. The script is expandable if you need to spread it over multiple servers to reduce server load, ie move the database to a seperate server etc
