This is what I don’t want

May 14th, 2009 by Greg

There appears to server problems over at Entrecard at the moment but no announcements about any problems on their blog nor forums that I can see.

I had an add that should have ran on the 12th May, and one that should have started on the 13th, both are still ‘approved’ and have not ran.

My inbox shows no new drops on my blog since yesterday eveningĀ  GMT.

The counter in the Entrecard page header correctly shows I have dropped on 11 blogs, but the stats on the dashboard and statistics page show I have dropped on no blogs.

I accept server problems happen, and although I hope not to see to many server problems on my new clone, I am realistic enough to realise it may happen but what I don’t want to happen is users are left with no information.

I don’t have the answer at the moment, and this is not a complaint about how EC is run, but thereĀ  should be systems in place that monitor the site and backend stuff and notifies someone so it can be checked out and users given information asap.

I usually do my drops in the morning and drop on my inbox from the day before. Imagine my surprise when I noticed yesterdays drops at about half of normal and not a single drop for today? Hope they get it fixed. I’m not having any problems dropping though.

  • June says:

Mine is sowing no drops today and that I have dropped zero. So something is wrong. Yesterday when I was dropping it stopped recording the number on the dashboard half way through so the problem was there then.
    Hope they fix it soon.

add to that scenario – Drops that Disappear from the Toolbar.

yes I lost at least 50 drops from this account alone today.

this is some craziness that they obviously know about from the amount of support tickets that have been logged, by my account alone. ;0 and I’m certainly not going to think that they don’t know about it, as they have enterprise servers – which we both know set off alarms when they default, or restart.

this is really just so entrecard..

  • I was just doing my drops about 30 minutes ago when they reset to zero. Also no drops on me either since yesterday. WTF?

  • My current calculation is that I’ve lost around 450 drops that I’ve did over the past couple of days and approximately that many cards dropped on me.

The ads that I’m running are completely screwed up. I was supposed to have over 15 ads scheduled for today. It has now dropped to 9 and I still have ads scheduled for 12th that are still running.

While I understand that problems will happen, what is very disconcerting is that there has been no comment from EC management.

  • I agree. My ads have been backed up, not changing for a couple of days. This has been going on since last weekend. I just noticed (about 30 min ago) that I lost well over 100 drops today. I’m at 5 right now…and earlier today, I was at like 150-something.

Frustrating. I couldn’t agree with you more.

  • PJ says:

yes it is frustrating, but i am still going to drop on my friends even if i have to do so twice. i agree that there really should be some kind of announcement as to the problem and that they are working to get it fixed. i will be joining your site as soon as it is up and running, and if there is anything i can do to help let me know.

I submitted service tickets for all 3 of my blogs, then a 4th ticket for a bogus drop in my total EC credits this afternoon. I got a response saying that they had a server crash and had to restore to an earlier point. I lost nearly 400 drops, and they were so nice and compensated me by putting 166 EC back into my account. How does that add up?

  • Paul Baines says:

I know they totally leave you in the dark – at first I thought my blogs were down – then I reinstalled the toolbar – eventually I found a thread in the forums and gave up worrying for the day. They don’t give a ….

  • Sandy says:

They have done a very bad job of managing. There anxious to make money, to do new things; but they’re not good at taking care of what they have. They do not communicate, the do not answer question, the ignored 12 pages of concerns in the forum before finally speaking up. That is very bad business. Compensating 1 person 166 ec’s who’s lost more than double, how does that work? And if you’ve not purchased the magic 400 ads, you can’t really even log a ticket to get individual help.

Buying and selling ads is fun, getting traffic and seeing other blogs is fun; I wish they’d go back to doing just a few things and do them well. Market place was to generate extra stuff and is still isn’t working properly, so instead of fixing it, they move on to paid ads, and when that doesn’t work properly, they move onto wanting us to buy domains……

    errrrrrrrr
    Sandy
Gonna try to drop today, haven’t been able to now for 3 days, no glue how many I lost before , but I think around 500 over a couple of days…and I have no way of knowing how badly the ads were screwed up.

  • I too have noticed problems lately. EC is great, but I HAVE NOT approved ANY paid ads, yet I saw them running on my site yesterday. When I questioned it, the waiting paid ads disappeared from my dashboard, and I have not heard anything from EC since. My drops have been recorded properly tho.

  • I think this not only shows the problem with communication there, it also shows that “dropping” is a flawed system. What are they going to do? Are they going to ask everyone how many they dropped? Are they going to give people the average of what they usually drop?

    • Greg says:

I disagree with your point about dropping being a flawed system. What is flawed is the way EC manage their database, they should have had a back up/mirror db at all times. It is because EC did not have this that we have all lost our credits from the last day or so.

  • Paul Baines says:

Yep – Entrecard is really getting on my nerves – Graham should write a mass apology and compensate us all with a few ECs. The attitude of the admin is ridiculous – not one has mentioned the problems with the last few days in the forum. Roll on your alternative Entrecard Greg!

  • I’ve also been noticing that those that have been dropping on my my site not changing in the feed as well. I try to give the droppers on my site a link to the sidebar but nothing seems to have changed for days.
