How to become a DropaHolic

November 28th, 2008 by Greg

I have been asked a couple of times ‘how do I become a DropaHolic? Do I need to drop on 300 blogs a day?’.

Well the answer to the second question is easy. NO. There is no need to drop on 300 blogs  a day well not at this early stage of the DropaHolics list at least.

In anser to the first question I can only give some tips, I am at #54 on the ‘Top 100 DropaHolics’ list as I write this so others may have other idea’s.

Firstly I suggest registering your blog for monitoring, this will add your list of top droppers to the database and the script will crawl each of your top droppers, if they are not already being monitored, in an attempt to monitor them aswell. This is not always successful but if it is, the chances are you could be on their ‘top droppers’ list which will help you move up the DropaHolics list.

I drop on two groups of people, the top 25 droppers, as listed in my Entrecard ‘top droppers’ feed, and the blogs that I am a top dropper on (generally the ones I enjoy reading). This generally means at the moment I start dropping on about 50 regular blogs a day. With around 400 blogs currently being monitored, a figure which is growing daily, the chances are some of those 50 blogs will be being monitored on DropaHolics and you will start climbing up the DropaHolics table.

The next thing would be to let those that you drop on regularly know that you are climbing the DropaHolics list. I just post something on my blog, well I would it’s my site, but so do others, like Journal of Journey who wrote about how he is in the top 3 DropaHolics. By doing this, the chances are those that you drop on regularly recipricate and will therefor read your post and register their blog, which should then push you up the list.

As your position in blogs top droppers lists does also effect your ranking you may find it worth while finding some blogs that are new to Entrecard to drop on, and encourage them to register. Dropping on new blogs regularly could get you higher up their top droppers feed quickly.

Doing the above should see you climb fairly well, looking at the Top 100 Dropaholics as I write this the blog at #100 is on the top droppers list of just 21 blogs.

I am not encouraging you to drop on blogs that are not if interest, stop and read and comment on the blogs you comment on as you can’t expect others to read your posts if they thinking you are a ‘drop and run’ merchant.

    Hi Greg.
There´s something that puzzles me. My blog Night Clicks is included on Entrecard´s Top Droppers feed.
Why can´t I find it among the 100 list, or anywhere else?
    Thanks.

Your blog is just outside of the top 100 dropahics atm, if you go to The Widget page and enter your blog title, when you are presented with the widget form you will see at the top of the page it tells you where you currently rank. (#129)

Blogs in the top dropaholics list are not all monitored blogs, ie we currently have around 420 monitored blogs and when you take the top dropper feeds for each of them there is over 1600 top droppers.

    Hi.
    Thanks for the explanation.
I probably won´t rank better than that because I also visit new blogs, besides the ones that drop on mine everyday. I think I´m not a top dropper in many blogs because of that (I don´t use any drop list).
    Good weekend. Cheers!

Hi. Thanks for commenting on my blog.
I hope I get to that level, it will take some more learning.
    A good Sunday.

With the way Entrecard has been acting, dropping 50 cards is getting to be rough. It tool me 3 reloads to get your widget to work on this visit.

Hope they get new servers soon!

I like the concept of dropping 300 a day. And I can do well for 3 of 4 weeks, and then burn out hits! I will continue to drop, because like you said on an earlier blog, it is a way to read new blogs!

    Hi Greg!

I’m loving Dropaholics and all its cool features fascinates me! I’m happy all my 3 blogs are in the Top 100 Dropaholics ;-)

  • Greg says:

Hilary, yea sometimes it can be a nightmare when EC have a bad day, yesterday was maintenance.

Kimmy, I love finding new blogs, generally if I’ve had 1st time drops from advertising etc then I recipricate and read them but I do ensure I drop on a core group of blogs daily.

Lainy, Thanks for a great post, but please be careful you don’t scare your readers away with that big mug shot of me :)

I have thought adding more features and/or widgets such as widget for inbox with blog badges, or a ‘Top DropaHolic’ award but I am no good at making graphics so will be basic.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks for this. I am guilty of “dropping and running” in the past and I thought I was doing what was expected of me. Its good to know that what we have here is more of a mutual support community and not merely a mechanism for accumulating links on other peoples sites. And as an earnest of my intent to change my ways I decided to append this comment. Diolch yn fawr.

I love to drop now that I am using Firefox. I have been having some problems with having to re-load a few pages but not a whole lot.
